The many waterways that flow into the Albemarle Sound offer unique and fresh opportunities for kayakers, canoeists, and paddle boarders. Canopied, secluded creeks, as well as the many wide rivers, estuaries, and ponds, contain a wealth of birds, aquatic creatures, and mammals to observe in their natural surroundings – truly a nature lovers dream! The beauty of exploring these waters is that they suit all levels of paddlers – short trips of just a few hours, all-day excursions, or, for the more adventurous, camping platforms for overnight stays. There is something for everyone.
Check out the regional trail map and choose your adventure! The Albemarle Loop provides some descriptions of the different trails and difficulty levels. Individual trail maps are located here and access points are marked. There are also boat ramps available at many Elizabeth City parks if you prefer to explore your own path!
