The Albemarle is a place of inspiration and challenge. We share its story with you.
Taking advantage of Elizabeth City’s waterfront vista, the Museum of the Albemarle enables visitors to experience the history of northeastern North Carolina. A chronological overview of the region is presented in the 7,000-square-foot main gallery with artifacts and graphics illustrating history and cultural development over the past 10,000 years, as well as the geography and ecology of the area. Rotating galleries highlight special stories, such as "Temperance & Bootlegging," "Women Breaking Barriers," underwater archaeology, and more. Check back often as new exhibits and events are scheduled!
Audio and virtual tours are also available to museum visitors with mobile devices. Experience more here.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
