Arts of the Albemarle is proud to be a participating venue for the 2022 Manhattan Short Film Festival! MANHATTAN SHORT has announced the Final Ten selections for its 25th Annual Short Film Festival — a worldwide event taking place in over 400 venues across six continents on one weekend, September 22 – October 2, 2022. Each short film is automatically Oscar-qualified by virtue of their selection by MANHATTAN SHORT. Best Film and Best Actor awards are determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each participating venue. Purchase tickets for one of three afternoon and evening showings in the beautiful Maguire Theater through Arts of the Albemarle.
A small group of North Carolina artists gather annually along the banks of the Pasquotank River to network with like-minded creative folks. River Splash 2022, hosted this year by Christ Episcopal Church from October 4 – October 8, is even bigger than ever with jewelers, fiber artists and wood sculptors joining 70+ local and visiting artists from as far away as Maine, Massachusetts and Atlanta. Arts of the Albemarle features ticketed workshops by Susan Tobey White and Catherine C. Martin. From daily Open Studio, to pop-up shops, an organ concert and art sales throughout the week including First Friday ArtWalk and an “Art Collective” on Saturday — the arts scene is alive and thriving in Elizabeth City!
Enjoy the 8th Annual Elizabeth City on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, This celebration of regional craft brews—featuring several new and favorite Ghost Harbor Brewing Company beers as well as local wines from Outer Banks favorite, Sanctuary Vineyards. Sample more than 20 craft brews and cider and meet some of the local microbrewery ambassadors. Listen to the popular band 5STARR, get delicious bites from Old Colony Smokehouse food truck and visit Smoke Rings Mobile Cigar Lounge. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. All attendees receive a souvenir bottle opener key chain, an acrylic tasting glass and koozie. Commemorative T-shirts will be available for purchase. Designated Drivers enter for free.This is a fun annual event that should not be missed!
Show your Viking Pride! Homecoming is a time when Elizabeth City State University welcomes alumni back to campus and celebrates what it means to be VIKING. ECSU students, alumni, and fans gather, including a series events open to the public from October 13 – 16 including oncerts, and the homecoming parade which starts at 9:00 AM, on October 15th. The highlight is the homecoming Elizabeth City State University vs. Lincoln University football game on Saturday at 1:30 PM in Roebuck Stadium (1704 Weeksville Road).
The Historic Ghost Walk is a family-friendly, fun and creative way to watch our local history come alive. No need to fear, our ghostly apparitions only wish to entertain as they spin their tales. Ghost Walk is a history lesson, home tour, and live theater combined in one event. This year’s ghostly theme is Murder, Mystery and Mayhem with performances Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Start your otherworldly adventure at Arts of the Albemarle where you can purchase tickets for $15. Plan to grab a bite to eat while downtown at one of our locally owned restaurants.
Come on out for a free, family-friendly festival on October 22, 2022! The beautiful Dismal Swamp State Park is the perfect place to craft vendors, food, music, cultural exhibits, bounce house, wagon rides, scavenger hunt, and much more! A 5K Fun Run/Walk starts at 9 AM followed by festivities of Dismal Day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Reserve your Dismal Day souvenir t-shirt, limited quantity available! This family friendly event welcomes strollers and allows participants to walk/run at their own pace. Do not miss this annual family festival celebrating history and nature!
Watch makers and artisans create magic and purchase a special gifts for yourself or others! Hand-woven baskets, Armenian needlework, stoneware pottery and fiber art creations. Expertly designed and lovingly made by hand, these are just a few of the traditional crafts. One of the oldest craft fairs in North Carolina, this fun weekend event is featured Museum of the Albemarle on Friday, October 28, 2022 – Sunday, October 30, 2022; general admission is $2.00, children under 12 are free. Hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 AM – 5 PM; Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
The “Spirit of Freedom,” a restored 1945 Douglas C-54 aircraft will re-enact the beloved “Candy Bomber” part of the famous 1948-49 Berlin Airlift. Returning to Elizabeth City, North Carolina during Elizabeth City Regional Airport on Saturday, November 5, from 9 AM – 4PM. The Candy Bomber will drop candy via parachutes to children below at 3 PM. You can also tour the C-54 Spirit of Freedom "The Candy Bomber" (www.spiritoffreedom.org). FREE airplane rides will also be available for kids (aged 8-17) from 9 AM – 2 PM.
