Gorgeous antiques and home decor at EC DesignSteeped in history, Elizabeth City is filled with many stories so why not purchase an item this year with its own story to tell? There are multiple eclectic antique and vintage shops around Elizabeth City that are fun to browse. The newest shop is EC Design (800 W. Ehringhaus St.), a pop-up antique store that features carefully selected items with panache. Not only will you enjoy hunting for treasures but you might be treated to interesting stories from owners Edward Fearing, an Elizabeth City native with deep family roots in the community, and Mel Powell, owner of the Foreman House B&B. Whether your Thanksgiving celebration is a small, intimate gathering or a large family get together, sometimes it’s great to leave the cooking and clean up to someone else. Montero’s Restaurant & Bar (414 McArthur Dr.) will host a Thanksgiving Day buffet served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on November 23rd with a menu that is sure to delight your entire gathering—including those who want vegetarian options. Those options include a mushroom Wellington, served with crispy potatoes in puff pastry, as well as mashed sweet potatoes and steamed green beans. Montero’s now offers a plant-based menu including items such as a black bean-stuffed sweet potato—a baked sweet potato filled with delicious black bean chili and finished with a Romesco sauce of grilled vegetables and almonds. This landmark restaurant has been around since 1967 when Tom Cox, Jr. opened the unassuming eatery at 1524 North Road Street.
